A North East-based independent building surveying firm has taken another step towards achieving its goals for 2024 with its latest appointment.
Three months after announcing the agreement of a five-year lease on new premises in central Newcastle, Lantern Building Consultancy has welcomed a new surveyor to expand its team.
Associate Josh Cauwood has made the move to Lantern following two-and-a-half years at Workman LLP’s Newcastle office, where he developed skills in project management and contract administration.
Cauwood has also previously worked for Wearside housing association Gentoo Group, commercial and residential consultancy Building Surveyors Limited, and regional property agency Naylors Gavin Black.
The Northumbria University graduate, who becomes the sixth member of staff at Lantern, will be based at the firm’s new address at Generator Studios, where a 1,500 sq. ft. space has been customised to accommodate further recruitment in 2024.
He said: “I’m very excited to join Lantern at such an exciting time for the business, and I’m looking forward to building on my experience. I am eager to get involved in undertaking building surveys, dilapidations, party wall projects and delivering other services for Lantern’s growing client base.”
Lantern Building Consultancy director Martin Smith, added: “Now that we’ve settled into our new home, it’s fantastic to welcome the first of several new faces to further augment the varied expertise we have within the team.

Launched in 2021 by Martin Smith and Alex Carter, Lantern Building Consultancy provides building surveying services including project management, party wall advice, expert witness reports, housing disrepair claims and reinstatement valuations.
