A long-established national law firm will relocate to a new city centre office later this month. Thompsons Solicitors, a leading personal injury and employment rights law firm which has operated in Newcastle since 1980, is elevating its city centre presence with a move to the top floor of Wellbar.
The recently upgraded 5,000 sq.ft space enjoys an unparallelled city centre position on the ninth floor of the Gallowgate premises, and the firm is now preparing to move up to 80 team members from its current base at Grainger Street’s Maybrook House.
Tony Hood, operations director at Thompsons Solicitors, explained: “With our longstanding presence in Newcastle since the opening of our first office in 1980, we are thrilled to relocate in the heart of the city, where we’re delighted by the facilities and excellent transport links offered by Wellbar. It was the standout location from our property search, and the light and views offered from the ninth floor are particularly attractive.
“This strategic move underscores our continuing commitment to the thousands of clients we represent in the North East, and provides an enhanced working environment for our dedicated Newcastle-based staff, with the modern surroundings they require for collaborative working.”
Patrick Matheson is partner at Knight Frank, the building’s joint letting agent alongside Savills. He said: “This latest letting brings the property closer to full occupancy, with only the newly-refurbished seventh floor remaining fully available, offering 14,000 sq. ft. of Grade A office accommodation.
“And of course there is also a fantastic opportunity for an organisation to take the 5,000 sq. ft that remains on the top floor.”
Already home to firms such as Kennedy’s Law, Careline Lifestyles, Turnitin and Sky, the improvements made to the 10-storey property over the past two years have upgraded a number of office spaces, the ground floor reception, lift lobbies, WCs, and shower facilities.
The multi-million-pound programme of works has elevated the building’s environmental credentials following a rise in demand for ‘best in class’ workspace. The investment includes the installation of new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Thompsons Solicitors, which was founded in 1921, prides itself on standing up for working people, across personal injury cases, including asbestos disease, clinical negligence and catastrophic injuries, as well as employment rights, regulatory and criminal law. The relocation reinforces Thompsons’ commitment to attracting and retaining the best legal talent in the city.
