A talented graduate has chosen one of the North East’s newest firms of independent building surveyors to lay the foundations of her career.
Ellen Clark has joined Lantern Building Consultancy as a graduate building surveyor after completing her studies at Northumbria University in the summer.
With ambitions to become a fully qualified member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and to pass its Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) in the next three years, Ellen opted to begin her working life at the firm due to the variety of work it can offer her.
She explained: “Among the initial projects I am working on are dilapidations, reinstatement cost assessments, building inspections, and I’ll be introduced to project management and contract administration, all of which will help me gain the experience needed to develop my competencies and reach these goals.
“The main thing that attracted me to join Lantern was the quality of its graduate scheme, through which I’ll gain experience on all these projects. I feel the variation of work is the most important thing to consider when taking on a graduate role, as knowledge of all aspects of the profession will be essential in the early stages of my working life.”
Ellen, who became interested in property renovation at an early age and pursued surveying as a discipline on the suggestion of her father, brings with her experience gained during several professional placements she secured during the final year of her studies to accelerate her knowledge of the industry.
Alex Carter, director at Lantern Building Consultancy, which earlier this year opened a new office at Generator Studios in Newcastle to help accommodate further growth, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome Ellen to the Lantern team and to see the firm grow with this appointment.
